12 July 2011 - The IPCA has been contacted by several members of the public who are concerned at media reports of the Rawiri Wilson investigation (“Death of Rawiri Wilson at Ohaeawai, Northland”).
Contrary to media reports, the IPCA did NOT criticise the Police officer for failing to have his car lights on high beam in foggy conditions.
It was not a foggy night. Paragraph 34 of the report states: “...it was a clear but dark night.”
The report does however refer to the boys “....walking along a white fog line at the side of the road.”
The white fog line is a painted line on the road surface.
