Permanent, full-time position

Do you want to contribute to a safer, fairer, more respectful New Zealand? Are you interested in making a contribution toward improving the fairness and effectiveness of policing? Do you have strong analytical, planning and writing skills?

The Independent Police Conduct Authority is an independent body set up by Parliament to investigate complaints against the Police and incidents in which death or serious bodily harm has been or appears to have been caused by Police employees.

We are looking for a Report Writer who can assist the Authority in our investigative processes by undertaking a variety of tasks, including the preparation of investigative project and interview plans, attending interviews as required, analysis of applicable law and Police policy, and the writing of associated reports and letters, including the management of natural justice processes.

You will likely have a legal qualification of some sort or an alternative degree in a relevant area. Your strong written communication skills and experience will include a demonstrated ability to write succinctly and in a form that is accessible to the general public. You will also have well-developed analytical skills that enable you to identify key issues and interpret and apply relevant evidence and policy to specific sets of circumstances or issues (e.g. complaints or investigations).

You will be attentive to detail, a meticulous planner and organiser, and experienced in working with sensitive and/or confidential material.

You may already have some knowledge of, and experience working in, policing or other law enforcement agencies or in policy analysis and development in the public sector.

This is a full time, permanent position and while based at the IPCA’s head office in Wellington it is likely you will be required to travel on occasions.
